Pro tip: always pack your own dice to a convention

I was at Gen Con last year playing in a tournament final. The venue provided dice, but one player rolled three natural 20s in a row on a set that felt way too light. I asked to check them and they were definitely loaded. The judge just shrugged and said 'supplier issue'. Now I bring my own transparent casino-grade dice to any event. Has anyone else caught cheating with house dice?

Honestly that sounds like a wild overreaction to some light dice. Most game stores and conventions get their supplies from big distributors who aren't trying to rig dice for a random tournament. Those dice probably just had a weird balance from cheap manufacturing. Jumping straight to assuming someone is cheating with the house dice creates a really bad vibe at the table. Bringing your own casino dice to a casual event seems like a good way to tell everyone you don't trust them before the game even starts.

Bring your own dice and offer to share them, it solves the problem without the drama.

Cheating happens more than people want to admit. A weird balance is still a problem, and the judge blowing it off proves the point. Bringing your own dice is just being smart.
