Pro tip: quit telling new players to buy sleeves before their second game

I used to preach sleeving every deck right out of the box, but after watching a guy at our Wednesday group in Portland spill an entire Coke on his unsleeved $12 copy of Love Letter, I realized the cards survived just fine and he saved $15. Does anyone else think the sleeve-first advice scares off newcomers more than it helps?
