Ran our board game night with paper score sheets instead of an app for 6 weeks and I'm never going back
Back in January our group in Sacramento had a huge fight over a scoring app during a game of Power Grid. Turns out someone hit the edit button on an old round and nobody could prove when it happened. So I got fed up and printed out plain score sheets for the next six weeks. The first night felt slow, maybe 90 seconds longer per game. But then something funny happened. People started actually talking about the math out loud instead of staring at a phone. Two guys caught a counting mistake in round 3 that the app had been hiding from us for months. The paper also killed that weird vibe where everyone trusts the screen and nobody checks the numbers. My buddy Ted said it best: "if I can see your pencil move, I trust you." Now I keep a folder of sheets in my game bag and I don't touch the tablet unless we're logging stats after the fact. Has anyone else gone back to paper for scoring, or am I just the old guy at the table now?
