Shoutout to the guy at the 2018 con who sold me a 'rare' expansion for $75
Honestly, I got home and found out it was a badly printed knockoff with missing pieces. Tbh I felt pretty dumb for not checking it over first. Has anyone else been burned on a fake board game buy?

Painted pine chunks? That's a whole new level of cheap.

My buddy Mike picked up a "limited edition" Catan set at a flea market for sixty bucks. The box looked legit until we opened it and the wooden pieces were just painted chunks of pine that splintered. The worst part was the board itself, the hexes didn't even line up right. He was so mad he just threw the whole thing in the trash.

Man I read about this exact thing on a board game collectors forum last week. Someone bought a supposedly rare Monopoly set from a booth at a convention and the whole thing was just a repainted version of the cheap 5 dollar Walmart version they got on clearance. The money was printed on regular paper and the board wasn't even laminated. You gotta be super careful with flea market sellers because once you hand over cash there's no getting it back and they know most people won't bother driving back to raise hell over 60 bucks.
