Tried the solo variant of Spirit Island on easy mode and still lost 3 times in a row
I finally caved and tried Spirit Island solo last month after my group kept cancelling, and I picked the easiest setup with River Surges in Sunlight against no adversary. Three games in a row, the island got blighted out by turn 6 every single time, and I honestly just sat there staring at the board wondering what I was missing. Now I am stuck between two camps: the folks who say solo board gaming is the best way to really learn a game, and the ones who think it strips out the whole point of playing with people. My win rate is currently 0 for 3 and I am not sure if I should keep grinding the solo mode or just wait for my group to come back. Did solo mode actually make you better at a heavy game, or did it just teach you bad habits that fell apart when other players showed up?
