Visited a board game cafe in Denver and watched a group argue over Catan rules for 45 minutes
I was just trying to grab a coffee and mind my own business, but this couple kept re-reading the rulebook out loud while their friend insisted you can trade resources during setup. Has anyone else seen arguments like this derail a whole night?

oh man i've been there. best thing to do is just grab the rulebook yourself and look up the actual rule on your phone. catan has a pretty clear faq online about setup trades. takes 30 seconds and ends the debate. seriously just pull it up and show them. saves the whole night.

dude seriously this is the way. i had a whole thing once where my buddy tried to say you can trade resources during the setup phase in catan because "thats how we always did it" and i was like no way that doesnt sound right. so i just pulled up the catan faq right there on my phone and sure enough it says no trading allowed until you start rolling dice. the look on his face was priceless but it saved us from a whole night of arguing. honestly the official rules are just a quick google search away so why would you even bother trying to win an argument from memory. its like people think theyre the rule authority but the internet knows better every time.

totally feel you on that. when someone starts arguing house rules it's way easier to just pull up the official FAQ on your phone than to try and argue from memory. saved my game night more than once doing exactly that.
