Warning: My group's 'no phones' rule for the first hour of game night actually got people talking

We started it about three months ago because everyone was just scrolling between turns. Now people actually remember the rules and chat about strategy (or just life). Anyone else try something like this to fix a quiet table?

Lol my group needs this rule bad. We had a guy last week who ordered pizza on his phone during the final boss fight.

Remember when we used to have to pass notes on paper if we wanted to be sneaky. One guy in my old group wrote a whole secret side deal with an NPC that way. The DM found the crumpled note after the session and just shook his head. Phones make that kind of thing way too easy and way more rude.

Saw a post about a DM who put phones in a basket during sessions. Honestly might be the move. That pizza story is brutal, like did he at least share it with the party? Some people just have zero table manners.
