Went to a board game cafe in Pittsburgh, now I pack my bag differently

I stopped by Games on the Avenue last Sunday for a meetup, and the owner showed me how he sorts his teaching copies by player count, not game type. He had color coded labels on the side of each box, green for 2 player, blue for 3 to 4, orange for 5 plus. That little trick cut our group's setup time from like 15 minutes down to 5, we fit in two extra rounds of Scythe because of it. I came home and did the same to my own shelf, took about an hour with a label maker and some scrap paper. Now I'm wondering if anyone else sorts their collection that way or if you stick to alphabetical or weight. Also curious if you attach the labels to the outside or slip them in the shrink wrap like he did.

That color coding would drive me crazy after about a week. I sort my games by weight, light stuff on the top shelf and heavy strategy games on the bottom, because that's how I actually decide what to play on a given night. Player count changes all the time depending on who shows up, but the weight of a game stays the same, so it's a much steadier system. Plus those labels on the outside of the box just look messy, I keep a simple list on my phone instead and check it when I'm packing for a meetup. The owner at that cafe can do whatever works for his store, but for a home collection it feels like you're solving a problem that doesn't really exist. I'd rather spend that hour playing a round of something than sticking colored dots on boxes.
