Why does nobody talk about just using a regular notebook for game notes?
My group in Portland was always forgetting house rules and campaign details for our Gloomhaven game, so I stopped buying fancy gaming journals and just used a $2 notebook from the drugstore for six months. It worked way better because I wasn't scared to scribble in it, and now I have one full book for the whole story. Has anyone else found that simple tools beat the special 'gamer' gear for tracking stuff?

But what if you actually like the fancy gear? I mean, a cheap notebook falls apart and looks messy on the shelf later. A nice leather journal makes my notes feel important, like part of the game's story. It's the same as @rowan_reed68 using a coffee mug for dice. Sure it works, but a real tower feels more solid and keeps the game feeling special. My group gets more into it when the tools look cool, not like we just grabbed office supplies.

Totally. My dice tower is a coffee mug.

Honestly, that's the best way to do it. I've used a cereal box before, just cut a hole in the top and some steps inside. Anything can be a dice tower if you're brave enough. It's all about getting that random roll without dice flying off the table. Fancy towers are cool, but my mug has never failed me. Plus, it holds my coffee when we're not playing.
