Just hit 500 welds on a single job in Indianapolis and lost count twice
I had to redo a whole section of boiler tubes over at the St. Vincent plant and I realized I hit 500 individual welds after 4 days straight. Never bothered counting before but my foreman kept a tally on the whiteboard. Has anyone else gotten surprised by a big number like that and realized how much work you really put in?

That's something about hitting that 500 mark and it really puts things in perspective. Your foreman keeping that tally on the whiteboard is a good way to see the progress, especially when you're just focused on the next weld and not the whole picture. It's easy to lose count on a big job like that, especially when you're switching between different sections or dealing with tight spots. I've seen that happen with other trades too, where the numbers just stack up faster than you realize when you're in a rhythm. It's a solid feeling to look back and see what all that steady work added up to.

Man that "stack up faster than you realize" part is dead on. I did a bridge job over in Gary a few years back and the foreman had a clicker counter. Thought I was around 300 by lunch on day two. Looked at his tally and it was 487. Felt like my arm was gonna fall off after that. @susan81 is right about the whiteboard thing being a solid way to see progress. I just kept my head down and welded. Didn't even feel the count creep up like that. Makes you appreciate the grind in a weird way.
