Just ticked over 500 hours of arc time without a single weld failing inspection
Been keeping a log since I started at the refinery jobs out in Gary back in 2021, and I hit 500 hours of arc time last week. Makes a huge difference when you're trying to get your certs bumped up for those pressure vessel gigs. Any other guys here track their numbers or just go by feel?

Tracking arc time is the way to go. It gives you real proof of what you've done when you're talking to the weld engineer or the inspector. I started logging all my rod usage and hours after my first pipe test failed, and it helps me show my experience when bidding on side work. Keeps you honest about your own skill level too.

Started logging my own arc time back in 2015 after a weld failure on a pressure vessel test. That log saved my tail when the inspector questioned my certs on a later job. It's a simple habit but it builds real trust with the people signing off on your work.

Emma the pipe test failure part really hits home, I've been there too and it's brutal.
