Reading an old safety manual from the 70s showed me something wild about boiler pressure specs

Found a dusty manual in my grandpa's garage from 1974. It was for a specific model of industrial boiler. The max working pressure listed was 150 psi. Checked the modern spec sheet for a similar unit today. Now they're rated for 250 psi minimum. That's a huge jump in just fifty years. Makes you wonder if the old limits were too cautious or if new materials are just that much better. What do you guys think drove the biggest change in pressure ratings?

Ever wonder if they just got better at testing the limits?

Better testing? My old car's manual said to check the oil every 3 months, and I'm pretty sure that was optimistic.
