Rigging a 60 ton vessel in Beaumont, my chain fall slipped and I still think it was the right call to keep going
We were setting a 60 ton vessel in Beaumont last month and my chain fall slipped about 4 inches on the first pick, so I stopped, re-rigged the whole thing, and we lost 3 hours. Half the crew said I should have just tapped it into place and kept moving, the other half said stopping was the only safe move. What would you have done?
Stop and re-rig. Every time. A 4 inch slip means something let go or shifted, and you had no clue why. Tapping 60 tons into place with a rig you don't trust is how guys get killed. Losing 3 hours beats losing a hand or a life, so you made the right call.
