Saw a crew using those cheap flux-core wires on a pressure vessel today

I had to tell the foreman to stop because the slag inclusions were already showing up on the x-ray inspection and it would have failed the hydro test in a week, has anyone else dealt with guys cutting corners on filler metal like that?

Oh man, that's wild! I can't believe someone would try that on a pressure vessel of all things. It's like using bubble gum and duct tape on a rocket ship and hoping for the best. The x-ray catching the slag inclusions was probably the nicest wake-up call they could have gotten before that thing blew. Glad you caught it in time, seriously!

And @fionam11, you're SO right, I saw a guy try to fix a cracked hydraulic press frame with a stick weld once. The thing looked like a Jackson Pollock painting of slag and bad decisions.

Fionam11, how did the foreman react when you shut him down?
