Scrapping an old vessel showed me why we should always salvage metal.

Most crews I know just send everything to the landfill to save time. But when we took the time to sort and sell the copper and steel, it paid for half the labor. That's a win for both the wallet and the planet.

My cousin's yard in Florida handles old fishing boats all the time. They used to just crush everything and send it to the dump to save time. But then they tried sorting the copper and steel, and it paid for most of the work. Why would anyone choose to lose money like that? It's not just about being green, it's about being smart with your cash. Sometimes the easy way is just the lazy way, you know?

Cutting corners costs you everywhere, not just scrap yards.

Yeah, it's like leaving cash in the trash. I'm guilty of taking the fast way out sometimes too, like when I just toss all the recycling together hoping it sorts itself out. Your cousin's story and what @roberth66 said really shows how a little extra work upfront saves a ton later. Makes you wonder how much money gets buried in landfills because sorting feels like a pain now. Is it just that people don't realize the value, or are we all just that short on time?

Spot on, @the_miles. We sorted the metal from a job site and it basically paid for the cleanup.
