That week in Baton Rouge where every weld held on the first try felt wrong somehow

I spent four days on a feedwater heater tube repair and didn't have to grind a single joint back down, which made me wonder if the foreman switched my rods when I wasn't looking or if I finally figured out the angle on those tight header spaces, anyone else have a run of good luck that creeped them out instead of feeling like a win?

Man that feeling is way too real... when everything goes right for too long you start waiting for the other shoe to drop. I had a stretch last spring where every pipe fit on a big exchanger job came in perfect and I kept checking my work like three times expecting to find a crack or a cold lap somewhere. It gets into your head when the universe doesn't throw the usual curveballs, like you forgot how to do the job wrong or something. Glad to hear you had that run even if it felt creepy, sometimes the good days are harder to trust than the bad ones.

Used to be in the same boat honestly. Would get a clean run and spend the whole next shift waiting for the universe to smack me back down. But hearing stories like yours and Fiona's makes me think maybe it really is just muscle memory finally clicking into place. You still get that little voice in your head wondering when the luck runs out?

The first time I had a full week of zero rework on some boiler tube welds I actually called my old foreman to ask if he was messing with me. He laughed and said I probably just finally stopped rushing and started listening to the puddle. That conversation made me realize good luck like that isn't something to be suspicious of, it's just proof that all the bad habits and sloppy days finally paid off with some muscle memory. Now when I get a clean run I take a picture and send it to him to rub it in a little.

Yeah, I'm gonna call bull on this one. It's welding, not brain surgery. You're acting like you cracked some secret code to the universe. A week of no rework is just a good week, not some mystical breakthrough where the welding gods finally smiled on you. Your old foreman probably laughed because he knows you were overthinking it. It's just metal and heat, man. Don't turn it into a spiritual journey.
