TIL a 30 minute job on a boiler feedwater line turned into 11 hours because of one stuck stud
Last Tuesday we went in to swap a handhole gasket on a feedwater line and figured we would be out by lunch. One stud would not break loose, and we tried a breaker bar, then a torch, and it snapped flush with the flange around 1pm. I spent the rest of the day on a stud extractor, two drill bits, and a lot of patience, and we finally got it out at 9:30 that night. The kicker is the gasket was fine when we pulled it, so the whole thing could have waited. I am not superstitious but I am done calling any job a quick one before I have looked at every fastener first. How do you all handle stuck studs without turning a half day into a full one?
