TIL my grinder guard cost me 3 hours of work
I was grinding down a weld on a tank job in Gary last Tuesday and kept fighting my grinder. Took me forever to get a clean line. Finally pulled the guard off 2 hours in and finished the whole seam in under an hour. That guard was blocking my view and getting in the way the whole time. Has anyone else just yanked the guard off for certain jobs?

Leave the guard off for jobs where you need a clear view, but mark that grinder so you know it's the "no guard" one and don't accidentally grab it on a jobsite that requires them. I keep one old grinder with the guard permanently removed and another fully guarded one for inspections. Just be smart about where you use it and watch where the sparks are going - one stray hit on a fuel line or a gas tank and you'll be wishing you had that guard back on. Also make sure you're wearing a face shield and thick gloves when you run it without the guard, because that disc can explode if you catch it wrong.

Did you have a hard time getting the guard back on after? Places get real picky about that stuff out here.
