Warning: my torch regulator failed mid-job on a 12-inch steam drum repair last Tuesday

I was sweating a joint on a 40-foot scaffold when the regulator started surging and nearly blew my tip off, so I swapped to the backup gauges and finished blind while the foreman chewed me out for not checking the seals beforehand - has anyone else had a regulator go bad out of nowhere like that?

Sounds like you got complacent with your gear checks, not the regulator's fault.

Read a dive shop owner saying most regulator issues come from skipping basic rinsing after saltwater trips, @paige166.

Is it just me or does this kind of thinking pop up everywhere these days? People are quick to blame the tool instead of looking at how they used it, like when someone says their car is unreliable because they skip oil changes. In my experience, most problems come down to not keeping up with the basic stuff, with the gear usually being fine if you treat it right.
