Can we talk about how my book club has killed 5 books in 8 months and nobody will admit it
I counted our picks last week and it turns out we have only finished 4 out of 9 books since January. The other 5 got abandoned somewhere around the 100 page mark, and every single time the person who picked it just shrugs and says we can circle back to it later. We never circle back. The last one was a 600 page family saga that Dana swore would be worth it, and by page 80 everyone was suddenly too busy to host. I actually liked that one and finished it alone like a loser. What bugs me is we spend 40 minutes at each meeting arguing about the abandoned book instead of talking about anything we actually read. Last Tuesday we burned almost an hour relitigating whether quitting counts as a real discussion topic. So now I want to know, does your club have a rule for dropping a book, or do you all just quietly let it die like mine does?

Is your club actually a book club or a support group for people who feel bad about not reading? Mine did the same thing until we made a two strike rule, where if nobody finishes a pick twice in a row we just move on with no guilt. It saved us from the endless "should we keep going" talk that was eating half of every meeting.
