Changed my mind about audiobooks after 3 years of hating them

I spent $14 on a Libro.fm credit for a book my club picked. I was dead set against listening to books. Felt like cheating. But I was stuck in traffic for 2 hours every day last month. Figured I'd try it. Now I get through 2 books a week during my commute. Anyone else cave on something they swore they'd never do?

Oh man, the 'feels like cheating' thing really got me. I had the exact same hangup about audiobooks for years - like I wasn't a 'real reader' if I was just listening. But here's something nobody talks about: I actually remember audiobooks BETTER than print now because I can't skim or skip ahead (you know, when my eyes glaze over during a slow part). I retain way more details from something I heard than something I read half-awake in bed at midnight.

Wait, don't you zone out with audiobooks way more than when reading?

The "remembering better" thing reminds me of how I never forget directions someone told me, but lose written lists immediately.
