Changed my mind about needing to finish every book club pick

I used to force myself through books I hated, thinking it was required for the debate. A member in my group pointed out that a strong opinion from reading just the first 100 pages can spark a better discussion than a lukewarm one from finishing it. Has anyone else found their club's talks get better when people are honest about dropping a book?

Honestly, my group just argues about the snacks now.

That bit about a strong opinion from the first 100 pages is so true, and it goes way beyond books. We do this with TV shows, podcasts, even new recipes, forcing ourselves to finish something we're not into out of some weird duty. Letting go of that sunk cost feeling, where you've already put time in so you have to keep going, frees up so much mental space. It makes the time you do choose to spend on things way better, because you're actually into it.
