Gave in and tried a modern romance novel after years of snubbing them
I have been in a classic literature book club for about 8 years. We read Dickens, Austen, Tolstoy, the usual heavy stuff. Last month my sister pushed me to read 'Beach Read' by Emily Henry. I told her it would be fluff with no substance. I was wrong. The characters had real depth and the story dealt with grief and personal growth in a way that surprised me. I finished it in two days. Now I am wondering if I have been too hard on whole genres of books just because of their label. Has anyone else found a book they dismissed that turned out to be genuinely good?

Nah you're good, but I think you missed what she was getting at. She meant the post itself was all hype with no real info, not you personally. Happens all the time on here where people mix up tone vs content.
