Hit 500 books on my reading tracker this year and now I feel like a fraud
I crossed 500 books on Goodreads a few days ago and it just felt hollow. Half of those were short Kindle novellas I read during lunch breaks at work. Our book club picks were different, we spent two weeks on each one and that felt more real. Anyone else feel like their reading tracker numbers are just for show?

500 books is wild, I can barely keep my houseplant alive that long. I add audiobooks to my tracker while I'm cooking and suddenly my nonfiction count looks 3 times bigger than it really is. Maybe it's just me but the number on the screen feels like a joke when I half-listened to a chapter while burning toast.

Does counting half-listened audiobooks actually count as reading, @gavin_kim?

oh gosh this audiobook counting debate reminds me of when I tried to track my steps with one of those cheap pedometers from the drugstore and it would count every time I sneezed or picked up a glass of water. i ended up with like 15,000 steps and I had literally just been sitting on the couch watching a whole season of some show. so I get what you're saying about half listened audiobooks feeling kind of fake when you look at the number. but honestly I think it still counts as reading because you're still getting the story even if you zoned out for a minute while burning your toast. the way I figure it, if you remember enough to talk about the book later then you read it enough.
