Our group argued for a week over picking 'Klara and the Sun' or 'Project Hail Mary'

We went with the sci-fi book, and the debate about the ending's hopefulness versus realism was so heated my friend Kathy left the chat for two days. Anyone have tips for calming down a book club when interpretations get that personal?

Try framing it as a game next time. Like, "argue for the interpretation you disagree with for five minutes." It forces people to see the other side without feeling attacked.

Forget the game, it just teaches people to argue better for bad ideas. You end up giving weak points more polish than they deserve. Some views don't need a turn at the mic.

Wait, you think arguing is just a game?
