Our group in Portland tried a new way to pick books and it actually worked

We kept getting stuck on long, heavy books that half the group would drop. So we started picking two shorter books under 250 pages each month, like 'Convenience Store Woman' and 'The Alchemist'. It cut the drop out rate from five people to just one. Anyone else try something like this to keep everyone reading?

Oh that's smart! My friend's book club did something similar, they switched to novellas for a few months and said it was way easier to keep up.

My book club tried that, but we found novellas just led to more arguments about the ending.

Hold on, I see it a bit differently. My group tried novellas for a few months and we actually ended up having more trouble, not less. The shorter format meant less time to develop characters and build a satisfying story, so people felt the endings were rushed and unfulfilling.

Honestly @tessaperry, my group tried short stories for a bit and it totally saved us from falling behind.
