PSA: I spent $22 on an annotated copy of the book my club hated and it saved the whole meeting
Our club picked a dense literary novel for March and everyone showed up ready to trash it. I grabbed a used annotated version for $22 at a shop in Berkeley, and it had margin notes explaining the historical references nobody caught. I brought three of those notes to the meeting and the whole room flipped from "this book is boring" to arguing about the ending for two hours. Now I want to know if spending extra on annotated editions is worth it for every pick, or did I just get lucky with this one?
