Serious question, our club read 'Klara and the Sun' and 'Never Let Me Go' back to back and the Ishiguro book just hit so much harder.
The Ishiguro novel's slow burn and unreliable narrator made the emotional gut punch way more effective than the Asimov-style logic puzzle of the other one, which felt cold by comparison.

Funny you mention that. My book club did the same thing a few years back, but with "The Remains of the Day." Half the group got so mad at Stevens for being so clueless about his own life. They were yelling at the book. The other half just sat there quietly, completely wrecked. It was a real split in the room.

Wait, hold up - half your book club was actually yelling at the pages?! That's wild, I've never seen people get that heated over a book before! Though I gotta admit, Stevens does make you want to shake him sometimes.

Stevens knew exactly what he was doing.

My friend's dad read that book and just stared at the wall for like an hour after finishing it... He said the quiet parts about duty and regret hit way too close to home. It's the kind of story that sticks with you long after you close the cover.
