Shoutout to the librarian who told me to stop annotating in pen

My copy of The Road is completely ruined with scribbles and I can't even flip through it without cringing, has anyone else ever regretted marking up a book this badly?

Why'd you pick pen over pencil though?

Totally feel you on that. I used to be a hardcore pencil person for years because I was so scared of making mistakes that couldn't be erased. But I eventually realized I was spending more time erasing and rewriting than actually taking in the book. Pen forced me to commit to my thoughts and just move on, which honestly made my notes way more honest and less cluttered. Do you ever find yourself overthinking things when you use pencil too?

Switching to a color coded system saved me tbh. I use those sticky tabs in different colors for themes and character arcs now, and keep a tiny notebook just for the actual notes. That way I still get the satisfaction of annotating without permanently wrecking the pages. It's way easier to go back and reference stuff too since I'm not fighting my own handwriting.
