Switching from highlighters to margin notes changed how our group argues

I used to mark up every library book with sticky tabs until a member in our Omaha club called me out for never remembering why I flagged a page. About 4 months ago I started scribbling one-line reactions in the margins of my own copies, and now I actually bring receipts to the discussion instead of just pointing at a color. Has anyone else found that their debate style shifts when they switch note methods, or do you all stay loyal to your old system?
