A bookbinder in Asheville convinced me to stop using PVA on spine linings for my leather journals
I met this guy at a craft fair in Asheville back in March and he ran a small bindery there. He saw my setup photos on my phone and said the PVA was making my spines crack after a year because it dries too stiff for leather. I switched to a 50/50 mix of wheat paste and PVA for the linings on my next batch of 12 journals. Six months in, the spines on those 12 have held up way better than my old ones, no cracking at the hinge at all. Now I am wondering if I should change my board attachment too or if that is overkill. Has anyone else played with paste mixes for leather work or am I late to this?
