Appreciation post: My old bone folder finally gave out after 15 years

I was working on a leather journal last week and the tip just snapped clean off. I replaced it with a basic Teflon one from a craft store in Austin for like $8, and honestly, it glides so much smoother on synthetic materials. Anyone have a favorite brand for traditional bone folders that won't crack?

My grandpa had a bone folder from the 70s that lasted until like 2010, and it was totally unmarked too. @the_faith, I think the brittle thing is actually from modern bone folders being made from cow shin bones instead of older cured types, which soak up moisture weird. My Teflon one is slick but I keep a small jar of beeswax handy to rub on it, makes it even smoother on paper and leather both.

My grandma's old bone folder from the 70s is still going strong... it's just a plain, unmarked one she got in a sewing kit. I've found the newer ones can be brittle if the bone isn't cured right. That Teflon one sounds perfect for your project though.

What makes bone curing go wrong?

How can a tool from the 70s still work perfectly?
