Blew $60 on a bone folder that actually wrecked my first project
Bought this cheap plastic bone folder off Amazon thinking I was saving cash. Turns out the edge had a burr and it scratched the heck out of my paper before I even noticed. Spent 20 minutes trying to fix the crease marks before I tossed it and grabbed a proper wood one from the local shop. Anyone else get burned by budget tools that seemed like a steal?

Respectfully, that sounds more like you got a dud than proof that cheap tools are always bad. Amazon returns are easy, you could have swapped that thing out instead of tossing it. A proper bone folder doesn't have sharp edges or burrs, but the material (plastic vs. wood) isn't what caused the scratch. That was a manufacturing defect, not a rule about budget tools. I've got a $8 plastic folder that's been smooth as butter for years, no issues. It really comes down to checking the item when it arrives and sending back junk.

@patricia32 your burr theory makes total sense though, but I wonder if factory lubricant on cheap tools can also mess with paper glue in unexpected ways.
