Found a cheap way to fix hinge joints on old books...
I was working on a 1940s encyclopedia set where the hinges were totally shot, and I didn't want to spend $40 on new cloth. Tried using some leftover bookbinding tape I had mixed with a bit of PVA glue, and it actually held tight after drying overnight. Has anyone else tried patching old hinges with stuff you already have on hand?

Doesn't PVA glue get way too brittle over time for that?

Are you talking about regular white school glue or actual woodworking PVA? The woodworking stuff holds up way better than people give it credit for. I've got pieces from years ago that still look fine and havent cracked. It's not like you're building a bridge or anything.
