Hot take: rounding your spine doesn't ruin a book like everyone says
Everyone in my shop keeps saying a rounded spine hurts a book over time. But I pulled a 1902 ledger I rebound in Rochester back in 2019 and compared it to one I left flat, and the rounded one still opens clean at the gutter after 5 years. The flat one is already cracking near the hinge. So I think we're blaming the wrong problem and ignoring how the paper folds. What's your real long term result with rounding, not just the theory?
