I finally gave in and tried that 'cold glue' method for leather spines

For years I thought it was just a messy shortcut, but a binder in Chicago showed me her 15-year-old repair that still holds perfectly. Has anyone else switched from hot glue and seen a real difference?

That binder's 15-year-old repair is a pretty strong case for it. I read a forum post from a bookbinder who said cold glue stays flexible longer, which makes sense for leather. Wader71, I guess the hot glue gun is for projects that don't need to last a decade.

Remember my uncle tried to fix his favorite armchair with hot glue once. He said it was the modern way, but the whole thing just cracked apart after one cold winter. Makes you wonder what else we're using that just seems good for now. I saw a video where someone used cold glue on a vintage baseball glove and it looked brand new. Kinda makes all the quick fixes feel a bit silly, lmao.

So the hot glue gun is just for show now?
