My handmade cookbooks can't handle kitchen spills

I bound a set of recipe books with decorative covers. Now they're warped from a little water damage. Should we stop making pretty books that aren't tough?

Yeah the "pretty books that aren't tough" thing is so real, I've bought a few just for the cover. I mean sean_barnes24 has a point that some are deep, but my shelf is mostly just nice looking paperbacks. Water damage would totally wreck the whole vibe though.
