That $80 guillotine cutter I bought from a craft store was a disaster
I picked up this cheap guillotine cutter for trimming book blocks and it couldn't even cut through 50 pages cleanly without fraying the edges. After three tries I just gave up and ordered a proper bookbinding knife instead. Has anyone had luck with budget cutters or do you all just stick with hand tools?

What kind of "bookbinding knife" did you settle on? I've been using a utility knife with snap-off blades for years and it works fine for most papers, but thick bookcloth always gives me trouble. Are you going with a traditional bone folder and scalpel setup instead?

Totally get your frustration. I wasted money on a cheap cutter once too. Blade went dull after like ten cuts and started ripping paper instead of slicing it. Went back to a simple utility knife and a metal ruler.
