TIL my niece believes bookbinding thread is for friendship bracelets
She snuck into my workshop and used my linen thread to weave a bracelet while I was cutting boards. Now my current project is short several feet of thread, and I have a colorful accessory to show for it. In my experience, keeping curious kids out of your supplies is a constant battle, but your mileage may vary. I guess I need to invest in a better lock for my thread drawer.

My nephew helps me in the workshop sometimes. I found it's way easier to just show him how to use the stuff properly than to try and lock it all away. Maybe you could teach her some basic bookbinding with the thread she likes.

A buddy of mine did what @grant380 said with his kid and a hot glue gun. Kid made a cool cardboard castle, stopped trying to sneak it entirely. Worked way better than just hiding the stuff.

Funny how I used to think locking stuff up was better.

Rowan's buddy gets it, glue guns beat locks.

Isn't it wild how kids just want to be part of what you're doing? I had a similar thing with my neighbor's kid and my good kitchen knives. I kept catching him trying to cut apples with this huge chef's knife, which was terrifying. So one afternoon, I showed him the right way to hold it and let him chop some soft mushrooms under close watch. He was so careful and proud, and now he asks for help instead of sneaking around. Maybe your niece would love making a simple little notebook with you.
