Appreciation post: My $12 thrift store mouse died after 4 months, but the seller helped me spot a fake
I bought a used Logitech mouse at a Goodwill in Tacoma for $12 about 4 months ago. It worked fine until Tuesday when the scroll wheel just stopped clicking. I opened it up and the little plastic tab that holds the wheel was snapped clean off. While I was poking around inside, I noticed the circuit board had a weird logo that didn't match any Logitech stuff I've seen online. I posted a photo in a tech forum and someone pointed out it was a knockoff with a real Logitech shell. The seller I got it from on eBay (where I later found the same model) messaged me back and admitted he buys bulk lots from a warehouse in LA. He said half the stuff is fake but he can't tell until he opens them. So now I'm out $12 and a mouse, but at least I learned how to spot the fakes by the solder joints. Has anyone else bought a used mouse that turned out to be a clone?
