That $40 'human verification' service turned out to be a bot farm

I got locked out of my business Instagram last Tuesday and panicked, so I paid a service that promised to verify me as a real person. They sent me a PDF of generic steps and then ghosted me for 6 days. When I finally got back in using the official support form, I realized the whole thing was just a front for a bot farm. Has anyone else thrown cash at one of these fake fix-it sites and gotten nothing but a headache?
