That guy at the coffee shop who answered like a chatbot

I was at a local cafe in Portland last Tuesday waiting for my order. This guy next to me asked how my day was going and I said pretty good. He then responded with a perfect three point list of why he thought Tuesdays were statistically the best day of the week. It was like he pulled it from a FAQ page or something. Has anyone else met someone who talks like they are reading off a script?

That "three point list of why Tuesdays were statistically the best day of the week" sounds like he was reading straight off a poorly written script. Maybe he was testing a new dating app line or doing some weird social experiment. I once knew a guy who rehearsed conversations in his head for hours before speaking, came off exactly like that.

Three point list about Tuesdays lol I would have asked him for the citation on that study or told him his data was outdated. Maybe he was just a robot in a human suit testing out his small talk module.

Had a guy at a climbing gym do this exact thing. I mentioned I liked the new route setters and he launched into a bullet pointed breakdown of their credentials, work history, and why their style was "optimized for lead climbing progression." Deadpan the whole time. Best way to handle it is to just interrupt with a random question like "what's your go-to coffee order?" It snaps them out of script mode and forces them to actually improvise. If they still come back with a rehearsed answer, they're either running a social experiment or they're def a bot.
