Can we talk about how I spent 2 years liking and replying to bot comments on my cousin's bakery page in Boise
My cousin runs a small bakery in Boise and I help her with the Facebook page. For about 2 years I was replying to these super nice comments on her posts. Stuff like 'looks amazing, wish I lived closer' and 'you can really taste the love in every bite.' Then last Tuesday I clicked one of the profiles. No photo, joined 3 weeks ago, and the last 40 comments were on totally random pages, all with that same 'taste the love' line. I checked another. Same deal. I went back through and counted 26 of them I had personally thanked.
What tipped me off was actually a small thing. One of them said 'my grandmother used to make these exact pastries in her tiny village.' Word for word, the same comment showed up on a page for a car detailer in Ohio about their wax job. Same sentence. That's when it clicked.
So here's my hot take. If you run a small page and you're getting love from accounts that have no post history and never buy anything, you're not popular, you're just being scraped. Reply limits don't help. Blocking one just brings 5 more.
What finally worked for me was turning off comments for a week and seeing which 'fans' never came back. Almost all of them vanished. You ever do that test on a page you run?
