I thought my "perfect" copywriting was why my dating app replies got such good responses, then my roommate asked why I was flirting with a bot named Dan
A few months back I was on this dating app and feeling pretty good about myself because I kept getting these super long, thoughtful replies from guys. Like full paragraphs asking me real questions about my dog and my job. I was bragging to my roommate Maya about how I finally cracked the code to good conversation on there, and she asked to see the messages. She scrolled for like 10 seconds and said "Tessa, Dan here says his favorite movie is a title that doesn't exist and he's asked you the exact same question about hiking twice in four days." I went back and looked and she was right. Every single one of them had the same rhythm, no typos ever, and they'd all answer within 90 seconds no matter what time I messaged. I had been excited about talking to maybe six different bots for almost two weeks. Now I check for repeated questions and weirdly fast replies before I even type back. Has anyone else noticed these accounts always ask about your "weekend plans" in the first two messages?
The "weekend plans" question in the first two messages is a dead giveaway, they always open with that or ask what you're looking for like it's a script. What worked for me was asking a weird specific question back, something no bot could guess, and if the reply was too smooth or too fast I bailed. Real people take a few hours to respond, make typos, and sometimes just say "lol idk" instead of writing a paragraph about hiking.
