TIL I flagged 47 replies on one post and only 3 were actual bots, which broke my brain a little
I used to report every account with a number at the end of the name and a generic profile pic, figured I was doing my part. Last Tuesday I went through a big cooking video's comments and marked 47 replies I was sure were fake, mostly accounts that joined recently and only posted short hype comments. Then I went back and checked each one by hand, and only 3 had the stuff that actually holds up, like posting the same sentence in 12 unrelated threads or a bio with 8 hashtags and no real words. The other 44 were real people, mostly older folks in places like Toledo and Fresno who just write short comments and don't fill out their profile lol. What got me was how many had normal spelling mistakes and replied to each other about the recipe, which a script would never bother doing. I'm way slower about reporting now because a blank profile is basically nothing. If you dig into a commenter's history, what's the one thing that usually gives it away for you?
