Debate: should you water outdoor plants at dusk or dawn after a total system failure?
My automatic drip system broke last Tuesday at 3 PM and I had to hand-water 47 pots before dark, wondering if the evening moisture just invites fungus vs the morning schedule I normally run has anyone else had to choose between two bad options after a timer failed?

Last summer my timer fried during a record heat wave and I had 53 pots to deal with before sundown. I tried both times and honestly dusk worked better for me because the water didn't evaporate as fast, even with that fungus risk @hannahcraig mentioned. I just made sure to soak the soil directly and avoided the leaves completely, and after about a week the mildew cleared up on its own. Morning water just cooked off too quick in that heat and I was having to double water which was way more work.

Our drip system died last August during a heatwave and I had 32 pots to hand water. I went with dusk because I work early and mornings are chaos for me. The first few nights I definitely saw some mildew on my tomato leaves but after a week it leveled out. I started watering closer to the base instead of spraying the whole plant and that helped a ton. By the second week the soil stayed damp longer which actually saved me from having to water twice a day like I would in the morning heat. I stuck with evenings for the rest of the summer and my plants were fine, just had to be careful about not getting the leaves wet.
