Hot take: I stopped using tap water on my indoor ferns for 6 weeks and the brown tips actually got worse
Switched to rainwater from a bucket on my porch in Tucson and saw new growth in 10 days, so now I'm hauling jugs like a weirdo. Anyone else find their tap water was the real problem, or did I just get lucky with the rain?
Man, this takes me back to when I was killing my calathea with tap water and blaming myself for months. Tucson tap is brutal, all that hardness and whatever else is in there. I finally got a cheap TDS meter and the reading was like 450 ppm, which is basically liquid rocks. Started catching rain off my roof in a trash can and the difference was night and day. Now I feel like a crazy person checking the forecast every time a storm rolls in.
