I finally trekked the PCT and the desert flora stole the show
Those cacti living in brutal dirt make pampered garden plants look weak.

We always cheer for the fancy, high-maintenance stuff, the showy roses and orchids. But the real grit, the kind that lasts, is usually growing quietly in the bad soil everyone else ignores. It's in people and places that don't look special but just won't quit.

Reminds me of the weeds that kept breaking through a crack in my old driveway. They were these scrappy little green things, not pretty at all, just stubborn. Every weekend I'd pull them out, and by Wednesday they were back, splitting that concrete open a tiny bit more. Makes you wonder what's stronger, the perfect lawn or the stuff you never asked for but can't get rid of.

Back in my old neighborhood, there was this pine tree that somehow grew right through a chain link fence. I mean, it's still there decades later, way stronger than any of the planted gardens that came and went.
