Just compared Walmart potting soil vs the local nursery mix

I did a side by side with my pothos cuttings using the $3 bag from Walmart and the $8 mix from Green Thumb Nursery here in Austin, and the nursery stuff rooted twice as fast in 2 weeks. Has anyone else noticed a big difference with cheaper soil brands?

nah but see @hannah_west39 has a point about miracle gro but that plastic chunk is sending me lmao. like extra fiber i guess?? free microplastics for the pothos diet. honestly tho walmart dirt is a gamble, you never know if you're getting soil or just shredded trash bags with some fertilizer sprinkled in. at least your plant will build character from surviving the walmart experience.

i mean, is it really that deep though? like yeah, walmart soil might have a random plastic chunk in it sometimes but we're talking about pothos cuttings here, not some rare orchid that needs a specific ph level. my mom has had the same pothos in straight up miracle gro from home depot for like 6 years and it's taking over her living room. i bet the difference in rooting was more about temperature or light in your house than the actual dirt. plus paying almost triple for dirt seems like a lot when these plants will grow in a cup of water if you let them.
