My client's grandmother in Phoenix showed me a pressed flower from her wedding day.
She kept it in a big Bible for 52 years and said, 'The violet faded but the memory's still bright,' which made me wonder how many other quiet plant stories are tucked away in people's homes.

My aunt has a shoebox full of that stuff, dried roses and brittle leaves. It's just dead plants in a box. Calling them anchors for a feeling is a bit much. They're clutter that makes you sneeze when you open the lid. People get too poetic about junk.

Look at it this way, that shoebox is full of tiny stories. They just need someone to listen.

That's such a beautiful thing to save. It makes you realize how many houses have little time capsules like that, a leaf from a first garden or a pinecone from a childhood vacation. They're not just objects, they're anchors for a whole feeling.
